Kedartal Trek
Kedartal is a very popular place in the Indian subcontinent. It is also known as the Shiva’s Lake. This glacial lake is also the highest lake in the state of Uttarakhand. The lake is located at an elevation of 16,115 ft above the mean sea level in the Uttarkashi district. The place is highly nurtured with Hindu mythology and carries within it immense significance of Indian history and holiness. The surrounding views have peaks like Mt Thalay Sagar, Meru, Mt Bhrigupanth, Manda Parvat, Mt Jogin and other pinnacles like Mt Gangotri embedded in the circumference as well. These mountains are a source of the Kedartal River which is known to be Lord Shiva’s contribution to River Bhagirathi, another main stream of Ganges in the country.
The trail of the Kedartal Trek stretches for about 38 km scheduled to be completed in 7 days which accounts for approximately 6 km of trekking every day. The terrain is not easy and hence makes the Kedartal trek fall in the moderate to difficult category. The trail in itself is breathtaking because anywhere you look you’ll find huge majestic mountains standing tall in the Himalayan vicinity. There are no small mountains in the view. The trekkers will also get to witness a lot of blue sheep or bharals. The best time to absorb complete aura of the Kedartal setting is in the summer months starting from May to June end and post monsoon section during the months of September and October. The serenity and wilderness are at its best during these sections o the year. The Kedartal trek will leave your soul calling out for more such adventures and warmth.
